Check Linn County on VINELink

After an arrest in Linn County, Missouri, custody answers take a few careful steps. Finding out where someone is held comes first. The county no longer runs its own jail. People arrested here are housed elsewhere, so custody details may sit with another agency. A VINELink Linn County search is the quickest way to check who is in custody. It also lets you sign up for alerts when that status changes. Missouri runs its notification service under the name MOVANS. A name match is only a lead. Confirm identity and custody details before acting on any result. Anyone can search and see who was arrested in Linn County.

MOVANS Coverage for Linn Custody

Missouri's victim-notification program goes by MOVANS, and VINELink is the public way to search it and register. State public-safety guidance covers people held in local jails, detention centers, and Missouri Department of Corrections facilities. Court-event notices exist too. Those are separate from jail-status alerts. Linn County adds a routing wrinkle. The county has no jail of its own. Its official inmate-roster notice states that inmates are housed at Macon County Jail. Because of that, a local VINELink search should choose Missouri and follow the Macon or local-jail path when it appears. That route reflects the county's own housing statement. Nothing guarantees that every Linn arrest or Macon custody record appears in MOVANS. The county's custody notice also explains why no active Linn jail roster exists to browse. Use it as the routing reference it is.

This is a routing notice, not a list. It names no one and confirms no current custody in Macon.

Search VINELink After a Linn Arrest

Type carefully before anything else. One wrong letter can pull the wrong person. A first and last name alone may return several results, so an offender ID or case number helps when the record type allows it. Resist picking a name just because it looks familiar.

  1. Open VINELink and select Missouri rather than a commercial jail directory or an out-of-state Linn County page.
  2. Enter the person’s first and last name. Add an offender ID, court case number, or protection-order case number when the available search offers that field.
  3. Check Macon County or the local-jail facility route because Linn’s official notice sends county inmate questions to Macon.
  4. Compare age or date of birth, reporting agency, facility, and custody status before accepting a match.
  5. If no reliable match appears, call the likely holding facility or arresting agency and ask which system holds the current record.

Search results can trail a fresh booking. Someone may already be released, transferred, or held elsewhere. Spelling variations hide records too. For a wider look, the 24 Hour Arrests tool covers MSHP data only, so treat it as a discovery aid rather than a custody confirmation. The Missouri VINELink route is the interface for a named-person check.

Linn VINELink Result Fields

The reference material describes each result field. MOVANS displays vary by agency. A missing field should never be guessed, and no photograph is promised for Linn or Macon.

FieldHow to use it
NameStart of the identity match, but not enough by itself.
Date of birth or ageCompare with known facts to separate people with similar names.
Offender IDA system identifier that can make a later search more precise.
Custody statusThe status supplied by the reporting agency at the last update.
Facility or locationWhere the system reports the person, subject to transfer and update timing.
Location or status reasonContext for a custody event when the agency provides it.
Reporting agencyThe source to contact when a result needs confirmation or correction.
PhotoMay appear for some agencies, but availability is not guaranteed.

Custody status answers one narrow question. A release does not erase the arrest. Court filings, agency reports, and VINELink status each answer a different question about the same event.

Register for Current MOVANS Alerts

Once the correct record appears, registration opens the door to custody-change alerts. Follow the current Missouri DPS custody-notification instructions. SMS text and email are the supported methods now. Custody and court-event notices may require separate choices, so read every label before you submit contact details.

  1. Open the current Missouri registration page and follow its link to the applicable VINELink record.
  2. Verify the person and reporting agency again before choosing an alert.
  3. Select SMS text, email, or both when those current delivery options are offered.
  4. Complete the confirmation steps sent through the chosen channel and keep the registration details in a secure place.
  5. Update the registration if a phone number or email address changes, and verify urgent facts directly with the responsible agency.

Alerts can cover release, transfer, escape, death, return to custody, parole activity, or selected court events. Coverage depends on the responsible agency. Reports can lag. Registration is a tool, not a full safety plan. The current Missouri MOVANS registration page is the official path for custody notices.

MOVANS Alerts Changed in May 2026

The Missouri DPS MOVANS update set the change for May 5, 2026. Phone notifications ended then. VINELink app alerts ended too. SMS text and email became the supported channels. Existing users had to update registrations before the transition. Older brochures still list a toll-free number and phone/PIN steps. They can explain older notification categories, but their delivery steps no longer apply. Start with the current DPS registration page.

Verify the channel: Current MOVANS alerts use SMS text or email. Phone calls, VINELink-app notifications, and the older phone/PIN workflow are legacy instructions.

For local-jail registration help, current DPS guidance lists movans@dps.mo.gov and (573) 526-1929. The line is staffed weekdays. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Missouri DOC help uses victims@doc.mo.gov and (573) 526-6516. Keep the two paths straight. A local jail record and a state corrections record are not the same thing.

Confirm a Missing Linn Result

A blank VINELink screen proves little on its own. The service only shows what participating Missouri systems feed it. Linn County arrests can fall through the gaps. No result does not mean no arrest. It also does not mean a release or an erased record. Linn's own housing notice points toward Macon County Jail. That hint alone cannot promise every Linn arrest lands in MOVANS. That is why a second check matters.

Call the Macon County Jail at (660) 385-2062 to ask about current custody there. If Macon is not holding the person, work out who made the arrest. Was it MSHP, Brookfield Police, Marceline Police, or the Linn County Sheriff? Ask that agency directly where the person was taken. Ask which record system tracks the booking status.

Non-emergency and records questions

A written request works better as a fallback than a live alert. The official Linn records instructions call for details like a report number, the incident address, and subject names. The custodian can redact material, cite a delay, deny closed content, or name another office holding the record.

Local, State, and Federal Custody

Match the tool to the custody type. VINELink and MOVANS handle participating local detention plus Missouri corrections data. For state supervision, the Missouri Department of Corrections offender search lists active offenders. That includes some people on probation or parole. It is not a live Linn booking roster. Someone can sit in a jail before trial and never show in DOC. A supervised person may appear in DOC instead. That person might not be locked up anywhere.

Federal custody calls for the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator. Immigration detention goes through the official ICE detainee locator. Do not lean on either federal tool to explain a missing local result. First find out which agency holds the person.

Local custody
A city or county detention setting, with Macon as the documented Linn housing route.
State custody
Missouri Department of Corrections confinement or active supervision.
Federal custody
Detention or imprisonment under a federal agency rather than an ordinary county arrest.
Disposition
The later court outcome, separate from any custody listing.

A VINELink listing shows custody status only. It tells you whether a person is in custody, nothing more. For anything beyond that status, the court record is the place to look.
